Adell Pouncey

Obituary

Adell Underwood Pouncey was born February 24, 1925 to the late Carey Watson Underwood and Donnie Bertha Jernigan Underwood. Four children completed this happy circle.

Sister Adell accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member to God in many states. She returned to Ozark, AL in 1970 and reunited with Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church.

Sister Pouncey graduated from D.A. Smith High School in 1945. She furthered her education by attending Stillman Institute in Tuscaloosa, AL and the Alabama State Teacher's College in Montgomery, AL. Upon graduation, she immediately began teaching and did so foe several years.

Sister Adell Pouncey was united in Holy Matrimony to the late William Lester Pouncey July 22, 1950. One son was added to this family, the late William Colbert Pouncey.

As a member of Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, Sister Adell Pouncy served as secretary, Beginner Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and a choir member. She was also a faithful member of Pride of Alabama Chapter 60 Order of the Eastern Star, P.H.A. and the Ladies Aid Missionary Society #19.

She was preceded in death by two siblings and one nephew (Charles Underwood).

Sister Pouncey leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Henry C. Underwood (Susan); loving nephews: Jimmie L. (Carol) McClendon and Darrell Underwood; nieces: Flora Mae Brown, Jennifer Graham, and Belinda Miller; a host of special people to share those memories: Rev. Mike Bivins (Faye), Deacon Willie Haywood (Elder Sara), Clara Fryer, Rose Petty, Katie Walker, Gloria Faulk, and a host of cousins, other nieces, nephews, and friends.
