Elma Lois Long

Elma Lois Long, 79, a resident of Dothan, AL departed this life Friday, August 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at North Highland Baptist Church, where Rev. Robert Jones is pastor and Rev. Brandon K. Marshall will be officiating. The deceased will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Memory Hill cemetery.  Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Unity Funeral Home.      Elma Lois Jones Long:  a servant of God, a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, was born March 4, 1932 in Abbeville, Alabama to the late Drew Jones and Emma Richards Jones. She was the eighth of twelve children born to this union. She confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama. Later moved to Dothan and joined First Missionary Baptist Church, she worked faithfully with the Sunbeam and other auxiliaries.     Upon graduating from the Henry County Training School she attended Alabama State University for a few years. In 1952 she was united in holy matrimony to Isiah Bennett (I.B.) Long Sr. to this union four children were born. She worked at Dothan Hosiery Mill, First Missionary Baptist Church daycare and at G.E. Motor plant until retirement.     Preceded in death by her husband Isiah Bermett (LB.) Long Sr., brothers: Henry, Joe, Harold, Emmitt, and Zack, sisters: Stella, Ella, Ruth and Eunice.      She leaves to cherish her memories with three sons; Isiah B. (Dorothy) Long Jr. of Pensacola, FL, Jerry L. (Doris) Long, Marcos S. (Pamela) Long, and one daughter Zenobia L. (Leon) Doster all of Dothan, AL and a step-daughter Elizabeth (James) Whatley of Anniston, AL.; also two sisters Betty (Henry) Smith of Abbeville, AL and Louise (Curtis) Brandon of Huntsville, AL. She helped raise her brother in law David (Carolyn) Long, Dothan, AL. sisters-in-law Reva Jones, Cleveland, OH, and Mary Long of Covington, GA; her adopted family Michael (Elaine) Hancock and children; and God son Isaac Salter of Florence, AL. She leaves 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, special devoted friends: Bettye Guy and Evelyn Grayson Williams and family, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
