Obituary

Mr. Gene Holston was born September 10, 1927 to the late Mr. Eugene Holston & Mrs. Elvira (Demings) Holston. After the death of his mother, his father married Ms. Ethel Mae Thomas, who became his mother, who raised him from a baby. From this union, God bless the family with ten more children.

He met and married Mrs. Carolyn Ruth (Neal) Holston and to this union God blessed them with six children, five girls and one boy.

Mr. Holston was a loyal long time member of St. Peter AME Church in Headland, AL, where he was a member of the Trustee Board and the oldest living member of the church until his departure. Mr. Holston was a church going man, but knew there were something more he needed before leaving this world. During his sickness he talked with God and gave Him his life completely. In opening up his heart, God came in and prepared him for his departure to his heavenly home.

Mr. Holston was a Master Mason. He joined Fellowship Lodge #439 of Headland, AL Jurisdiction on December 28, 1970. He was a well decorated Master Mason, and received many reward and aquacades.

He was employed by many companied within the tri-state area, where he held various positions with the Dothan Oil Mill Company, Troy State Fertilizer Plant, Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Headland Police Department and many more before starting his own Bush Hauling business until his death. In the time between these jobs he planted and raised his own vegetables gardens; supplying food for his family, friends, and neighbors. He always wanted everybody to have plenty to eat.

On Friday, February 22, 2019, Our Lord and Savior declared the decree for the Heavenly Host to personally escort Brother Gene Holston to his new heavenly home.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Elder Carolyn Ruth Holston; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Alice (Holston) Lewis; his siblings: Mrs. Ora Demings, Mrs. Irene Holston, Ms. Ethel Mae Holston, Mrs. Mattie Lou Davis, Mrs. Rosie Ford, Mr. Dennis (Inie Mae) Bozeman, Mr. Ezekiel Thomas, Mr. James Earl Holston; two son-in-laws: Mr. Gene Lewis and Mr. Johnny Williams.

He leaves to mourn his six children: Mrs. Hazel Williams of Anchorage, AK, Elder Lou Jean (Levi) Thomas, Elder Ina Carroll, and Mr. James R. Holston all of Headland, AL, Mrs. Gerlain (Van) Green of Decatur, GA, Mrs. Betty (James) Moore of Huntsville, AL; one brother, Mr. Columbus (Rena) Holston of Dothan, AL, one sister, Ms. Lula Bell Holston of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Christine Chapman of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Sarah (Michael) Sherard of Charlette, NC; one brother-in-law, Mr. Bernell Hollis of California. In his loving care he raised two grandchildren: Mrs. Sandra (Mark) Weaver of Stone Mountain, GA and Mr. Kenneth (Becky) Holston of Staley, North Carolina; and help raised four of his nephews when his sister Mrs. Mattie Lou Davis became bed ridden, Larry Donnell Holston, Andre Barnard Bonds, Eddie Charles Holston and Terry Holston; god-children the Rogers family children and the Lee family children, and a bundle of joy of (25) grandchildren, (31) great grandchildren, (4) great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
