Mr. Jerry Boyd

Jerry Boyd was born May 18, 1951 in Newton, Alabama to the late Elmo and
Bonycle Boyd. He was a 1969 graduate of M.M. Matthews High School. He
became a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and
was ordained as a Deacon on August 15, 2004 under the late Dr. S.C. Jackson
and current Pastor J.L. Boyd.
His career began at Twitchell as a Loom Fixer where he worked for 13 years.
He later moved on to Michelin Tire Corporation where he worked 30 ½ years
as a THS Warehouser and retired in 2010.
He served numerous terms for the City of Newton as a Council Member
including Mayor Pro Tem. He was awarded the Political Trailblazer Award by
the Dale County Chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference September
2018.
He loved sitting on the back porch talking on the phone, watching Westerns,
7shing, and working in his garden. He loved spending time with his
grandchildren and fur baby, Foxy Bella. He was a father 7gure to many.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories to his wife of 48 years, Mattie
Pearl Boyd. His children, Shannon Boyd of Smith Station AL, Patrick Boyd of
Wisconsin, Scottie Boyd of Newton, AL and Erica Arrington (David) of Dothan
AL; Ten grandchildren (Myniah and Justin Barnhill; Payton, Royannon,
Makayla, Arista, and Kayden Boyd; Savannah, Liyah and Kaleb Boyd). His
beloved sister, Pamela E. Thornton (Joseph) of Montgomery, AL and a host of
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
