Ruby Lois (McGriff) Potter known to many as “Ma Potter” was born November 4, 1945 to Curtis and Inez (Grimsley) McGriff. She transitioned from her earthly life on May 28, 2026 at Southeast Health at the age of 80.
Ma Potter accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Oakey Grove M.B.C. all her life, and became a “Mother of the Church.” She enjoyed helping people and being a blessing to anyone in need. Her heart was so full of love to give, and she will truly be missed. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to church, gardening, cooking and baking, especially a pot of cabbage and a sweet potato pie that could melt your heart.
Ma Potter was a devoted and faithful wife to the late Deacon Herman Jr Potter for 17 years until his passing in 1983. Her parents and siblings also preceded her in death.
She leaves behind to cherish 2 daughters, Jewell Potter and Mary Potter of Dothan, AL and a son, Herman Potter Jr. of Atlanta, GA. She also helped in raising her nieces, Teresa(Willie) Granger of Mobile, AL, Nancy Perkins of Stamford, CT, Jessica McGriff of Dothan, AL and a nephew Johnny Perkins of Dothan, AL as her own. Her grandchildren, Antonio Potter, William (Oretha) Potter, Samantha (Kenny) Williams of Dothan, AL, Harrison (Trinety) Potter of Albuquerque, NM, Kierra Potter, Shekira Potter, Lashondra Potter, and Talesha Potter of Dothan, AL. Her great grandchildren, Samiya and Kamorian Williams of Dothan, AL, Elijah Potter of Hartford, AL, Arion Patterson of Cowarts, AL, Avery Taylor of Midland City, AL, Preslynn, Princeton, Harrison, Kaedynn, and Nikola Potter of Dothan, Rydaris Young blood, Jasiah McGriff and Nizaiah McGriff; special friend Minister Ethel Jennette Dawsey of Ashford, AL, special uncle, George Grimsley of Ocala, FL and special aunt, Chattie Mae Johnson of Lakeland, FL. And a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
