Mary B Walker Savage

April 12, 1932 ~ March 4, 2020 (age 87)

Mary B. Walker Savage, affectionately known as “Mama,” “Grandma,” “B,” “Aunt May B,” and “May B,” was the matriarch in her family and the surrounding community.  She was sharp, witty, and funny, and she had a vibrant personality!  Her infectious laugh, her warmth, and her amazing cooking comforted many neighbors and strangers and quickly turned them into family in a matter of minutes!  While she was a Soul Food Queen, she not only fed you physically – she fed you spiritually.  She was a Proverbs 31 Woman, an encourager of faith, and her walk reflected the Fruits of the Spirit.  She loved the Lord and she loved others unconditionally.  Her love was both deep and wide.  She always brought calm and peace to any unexpected turbulence around her.  She was a bright and shining light in her community and a safe haven for many.  She was an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, confidante and a woman of her word.  Her intellect far exceeded the world’s standards and her wisdom was beyond measure.

Mary B. was born April 12, 1932 to Katie Smith and Lawson Walker in Opp, Alabama.  During her early childhood, her family moved to Dothan, Alabama where she was reared by Katie and Julius McGrady.  Mary B. had 6 siblings – I.D. Young, Jerry Walker, James McGrady, Willie McGrady, Jesse D. McGrady, and Essie B. McGrady Callins.  She nurtured her siblings while raising her own and was a second mother to most of them after their mother passed.  Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

Mary B. birthed 14 children and she leaves behind 11 to treasure her memories:  Mary Ann Daniels, John Allen Walker (Beverly), Gregory Germany (Mary), Sammy Walker, Simmy Walker (Terri Ann), Timothy Walker (LaKeyisha), Linda Walker, Brenda F. Walker (Matthew), Kenneth Walker (Tammie), Sharon Walker, and Darion Walker.  She also reared two of her grandchildren – Phillippa Davis and Thomas Daniels. Her son Patrick, her daughter Cassandra, and most recently, her daughter Pinky preceded her in death.
