Mrs Hattie L. Dora Brown

Mrs. Hattie L Dora Williams Brown was born in Houston County, Alabama on December 20, 1934 to the late George Washington and Lena (Jackson) Williams. Quietly, on Thursday, May 7, 2020 in Dothan, Alabama, she entered into eternal rest.

Hattie, affectionately known as “Eldora” or “Dora,” received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Alabama State University and her Master’s Degree in Library Science from the State

University of New York at Oswego.  She relocated to Buffalo, New York, after being united in marriage to Herbert Brown, where she taught in the Buffalo City School District until retiring to Dothan, Alabama.

Hattie gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful servant of the Lord.  Her efforts to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness led her to the Bibleway Church in Dothan, Alabama where under the leadership of Bishop Russell Gordon she was an exemplary member.  She enjoyed preparing for and teaching Sunday School and was revered as a Church Mother.  Her service in this capacity enabled her to touch the lives of many – as a role model, mentor, and teacher. Mother Brown enjoyed setting the example for others to follow and being a “difference maker.”

Hattie had a zest for living and a passion for traveling. She was an avid reader and strong proponent of higher education. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family and loved shopping.  When asked why she shopped so much, she replied, “Because I can” and, “You never know when you won’t be able too.”

Hattie Brown was predeceased by her parents, George

Washington and Lena (Jackson) Williams; husband, Herbert Brown; daughter, Holland Faye Brown-Sparks; sisters, Ola Mae Newton, Georgia Williams, Eunice Dudley, Brunice Williams, Stella Mae Williams, Annie L Hobbs; brothers, Jerry Williams, James D Collins, and Arthur Collins.  She leaves to cherish fond

memories: a loving granddaughter, Dallas Sparks;

step-daughter, Serita Bolden; special nieces, Annie Doris

Collins, Joan Marie Jackson; devoted brother-in-law, Lenzy Brown; best friend, Karetha Fowler; special friend, Miriam Fling; the Bibleway Church family; and a host of family and friends.
